Onion is one of the most important crop on India for internal consumption as well as export. India is 2nd Largest producer of Onion Globally. The requirement of onion is almost constant throughout the year and availability of fresh onion is limited to 7 or 8 months and there is lean period when prices shoot up because of poor storage conditions available in the country. Onion require a temperature of 25 degree Celsius (plus minus 2 degrees) and a Rh of 60-70% for longer shelf life. If the temperature varies sprouting starts and small & marginal farmer start losing its value and don’t get Right price of the product

The ideal situation to store Onion is a well-ventilated place and temperature should be between 23-27 degree centigrade and humidity should be 60-70 %. Traditionally onion is stored in heap placed over iron net. Aeration is arranged through fans and heating is arranged through room heaters. In most of the region in India there is a huge difference in day and night temperature because and it is very difficult to maintain optimum temperature manually. An IOT based system with Heat Ex-changer which can maintain a constant temperature and humidity can increase shelf life of Onion.
